Decanter Trophy & 95 Points
Best Value Red Rhone Varietal
‘Outstanding Value’ – 93 Points Huon Hooke
The 2017 competition attracted more than 17,200 entries, with more than 1,000 Australian wines entered as a panel of 219 expert judges, including 65 Masters of Wine and 20 Master Sommeliers, in a blind tasting. Gold medal winning wines compete against each other for a platinum medal, with these wines then progressing to decide the Platinum Best in Show Trophies.
The 2015 Berton Vineyards Reserve Shiraz was described as “bursting with quality… the fragrant bouquet of creamy Christmas cake leads into a multifaceted palate of black fruit, prune, spice and a savoury godspeed with affably dry, chalky notes”
“Very deep, bright, red-purple colour and a bouquet of fresh berries and subtle spices. The tannins are ample and soft and tailor-made to be approachable young. Oak is barely noticeable. It’s a touch plain at this tender age but is outstanding value. Best Value Rhone Red Varietal, 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards” – 93 Points Huon Hooke
