97 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday
Sourced from the Homestead vineyard planted along the foothills above Schlenkes Gully, this is their highest altitude Estate vineyard and receives the full force of the cooling breezes that work so well to maintain elegance and finesse along the Eastern Ridge of the Barossa.
Picked in the early morning from the single vineyard of Homestead Across the Creek Top Block, the fruit for this wine was crushed to fermenter with a proportion of whole berries to maximise fruit expression. After a gentle fermentation on skins for 8-10 days with twice daily pumpovers the wine was pressed to combination of new and seasoned French oak before resting for its 18 month maturation.
A cooler vintage in the Eden Valley with a long ripening period, this led to Shiraz having an long and balanced maturation period leading to fully ripe fruit flavours with an underlying balance and elegance.
“From the estate’s highest vineyard block situated on the eastern ridge of the Barossa foothills, and is a quite lovely example of shiraz grown in a temperate climate. It’s medium-bodied, the bouquet full of spice, red fruits, rose petals and cherry blossom characters all translating straight to the long, supple palate. Tannins and oak are part of the backdrop, simply providing the finish of the wine.” – 97 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday
