This is the family winemaking project of Dave Bicknell and Nicky Harris. Dave is a veteran of 22 Yarra vintages (Oakridge, de Bortoli) and three French seasons taking in Burgundy, Alsace and Beaujolais for Louis Latour, Paul Blanck & Chateau Du Bluizard.
“This is the first wine from the vineyard we have taken on ourselves and farm. It’s at the top of the hill at Gladysdale (340m), planted in ’88, is as steep as buggery (next door to a famous ‘illegitimate’ vineyard from a much bigger producer) and needs some TLC. Huge potential anyway. Only 2.3t from 1.5Ha on the pinot, so ~150 dozen. A fairly long fermentation, (~24 days) to extract the max tannin from such a perfumed site.” – Winemaker D. Bicknell
“On the one hand it’s so bright and sweet it feels happy-go-lucky, on the other it’s savoury, dry and stern. It could easily seem schizophrenic, but the warring parties meet on the common ground of quality. In other words, it makes it work, the end result both complex and thrilling, yet accessible.” – 96 Points Campbell Mattinson for James Hallidays Wine Companion
