Bleasdale has been growing Malbec since the late 1800’s and produced the regions first Malbec table wine in 1961.
The majestic red gums that surround Bleasdale are at the core of their remarkable history. When Frank Potts settled the land in the 1850s, he used the timber from these big, beautiful trees to build the winery. Their vineyards benefit from the rich, clay soils that also support these gums, giving generosity and longevity to their wines. The growth rings reflect the multitude of stories from past seasons and generations of family and growers alike.
“Typical intense malbec colour. From 2 estate blocks, 1 specialist grower block. 10% whole-berry fermentation, with cold soak, 7–9 days on skins; matured for 12 months in French puncheons (10% new). Winemaker Paul Hotker has this wine on a string, dancing to his every command. This has the gravitas of a great red wine that just happens to be made from malbec; its mouth-watering intensity of forest blackberries, cloves and black olive drawn out on the finish by ripe tannins.
