Premium Barossa Red wines from Charles Melton are crafted to reflect the rhythm of the seasons, the richness of our earth and the quiet patience of its people.
Mid to deep red with just a hint of amber edge, typical of Grenache. The initial aromatic is showing less Mediterranean garrigue and herb but more of sweet talc and salted caramel perfume. Some nice sweet cedar adds complexity but the 2015 vintage is less wild gypsy and more almost pinot like sweet red fruits.
Displaying the characteristics of the 2015 vintage, more fluidity plumper and open weave in texture. Similar to 2005 or 2009 but with less masculinity and a little more finesse.
“An iconic label and iconic wine that’s been a feature of the Barossa Valley for the better part of 45 years. Dry-grown bushvine grenache is the dominant variety, co-fermented with old vine shiraz and a small percentage of mataro. It is matured for 2 years in French barriques, and although the colour isn’t deep, it has retained purple notes, and also great depth to the mouthfeel and sumptuous multifaceted red and purple flavours.” – 97 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday
