All Cullen Wines are grown on a certified Biodynamic, Carbon Neutral and naturally powered estate. Grapes are harvested by hand on fruit and flower days according to the astrological calendar.

The ‘Vanya’ is certified biodynamic, naturally fermented with no yeast, acid, malolactic culture additives, fining nor filtration. It was aged 19 months in 50% new oak. It is a pure expression of an outstanding Cullen Wilyabrup vintage. Only made in exceptional years, A blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot.

“Extraordinary wine from the oldest (’71) estate plantings, wild-fermented, matured for 19 months in French oak (47% new). Deeply coloured, highly fragrant, the palate takes you on a mesmerising ride with a mid-palate peak of pure cassis fruit, then a swish of integrated savoury tannins before rising again on the dark fruit line of the finish thanks in part to 3% petit verdot.” – 99 Points James Halliday

“Slightly doughy smells over violet, succulent fresh boysenberry and blackberry, lavender, some pepper and exotic spice, toast and perfumed cedar oak. Medium bodied, significantly tannic with a mass of grainy tannin running through its core, savoury oak in the back, and a clean finish of terrific length. The quality of the acidity and tannin here is, well, unnaturally good. Beautiful wine. Needs at least a decade.” – 97 Points Gary Walsh

 “Not to be made every year, the debut vintage of the 2012 Vanya is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon with 3% Petit Verdot. Only 4,500 bottles of this wine were made. It spent 19 months in 50% new oak and possesses a deep garnet-purple color with a savory, yeasty and meaty nose redolent of red and black plums, cassis and cigar box, and a spicy undercurrent of lavender, bay leaf and rust. This multi-layered, taut, intensely flavored wine is beautifully elegant in the mouth, with incredibly ripe flavors and with silky tannins. “A one-off cabernet with 3% petit verdot from an outstanding year. Named after the winemaker Vanya Cullen. 4500 bottles produced. 19 months in 50% new oak. The wine is extraordinarily beautiful, balanced and elegant. The bouquet is fully-ripe red and black fruit aromas, with a high note of violets, without leafy notes, finishing with a trace of dark chocolate. The tannins are very fine-grained and soft. A delicious wine, already drinking superbly. The wine has great concentration and precision ripeness, but is not a blockbuster, nor is it overtly oaky.
