Mclaren Vale Wine Show 2021
McLaren Vale’s 2021 Best Wine of Show and the prestigious ‘Bushing Monarch’ title has been awarded to the 2020 Dandelion 2020 Lion’s Tooth McLaren Vale Shiraz.
Whole bunches from our most distinctive Shiraz from Pieri family’s Vineyard were hand harvested in the second week of March, then and fermented on stalks in open fermenters on top of some Riesling skins for eleven days, hand plunged twice a day, before careful basket pressing into some new but predominantly older French Oak Barriques to finish fermentation and enhance the wine’s perfume and palate. 95% Shiraz, 5% Riesling
After 18 months maturation and a racking in the same oak, we bottled this Lion’s Tooth without filtration or fining, to capture the essence of the vineyard.
Dandelion Vineyard’s Lion’s Tooth is ready to drink and will reward cellaring and decanting.
“McLaren Vale shiraz with 5% riesling. It’s a friendly shiraz with both good depth and texture. It feels soft, there’s substance to the mid palate, it carries a fine sheet of tannin but it’s open for business and ready/able to be consumed right now. Plum, mint, toasted cedar and redcurrant flavours get the job done. The riesling adds a juiciness to the finish but it also thins it a bit; the bulk of this wine’s flavour is both upfront and through the middle. Most red wine drinkers will enjoy this; the fruit is right in the sweet spot, begging to draw you in.” – 92 Points Campbell Mattinson
