‘a near-perfect, elegant cabernet’
96 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday
Situated in the Fleurieu region of South Australia, McLaren Vale is nestled within the southern Mount Lofty Ranges. With it’s close proximity to the Gulf of St Vincent to the west, the resulting Mediterranean-type climate ensures the grapes enjoy a long, even ripening period, producing wines of exceptional flavour and generousity.
Sourced from the cooler, sandy slopes of our Tintookie vineyard and the loamy soils of the California Road vineyard, the Dowie Doole Cabernet Sauvignon displays the hallmark traits of McLaren Vale cabernet; dark chocolate, black fruits, lifted aromatics, elegant, fine tannins and the promise of great longevity.
“Four parcels of fruit, crushed and cold-soaked 3-5 days, fermented separately in ‘Fat Boy’ fermenters with daily pumpovers, 5-10 days post-ferment maceration, matured in French hogsheads (23% new) for 18 months. Against the odds (low yield, warm vintage), this is a near-perfect, elegant DOWIE DOOLE cabernet, the answer to the paradox the estate Tintookie Vineyard in Blewitt Springs. The balance of the fruit, oak and tannin is perfect, as is the contrast of cassis and black olive.” – 96 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday
