Margaret River and Chardonnay go hand in hand, but the expressions of this variety across the region are many and varied. The Flowstone Queen of the Earth Chardonnay is from one tiny patch of vines in the southern reaches of the region.
“The first crop from the 0.5ha planting in ’04, hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed; fermentation and mlf in French oak (50% new); 17 months in barrel with occasional stirring; once bottled it is held for 36 months before release. The mouthfeel is exceptional, almost succulent, and yet full of activity as the oak and mineral components also find the taste receptors; the length of the palate is awesome. 75 dozen made.” – 97 Points James Halliday
“Smoke and struck match, grilled nuts, vanilla cream, pear, mixed citrus, fine spiced oak. Medium bodied, intense acidity, grapefruit and lime pulse with spiced oak and flinty mineral bits, slight hazelnut cream, but really tight and focussed. Super length here. Great expression of a cooler Margaret River site. So light on its feet. Brilliant debut.” – 95 Points Gary Walsh
