Forest Hill Vineyard has a unique place in the history of Western Australia’s wine industry, being the first cool climate vineyard planted in the state. Following extensive research throughout the South-West, a site was chosen on the property owned by Tony and Betty Pearce and in 1965 a two hectare vineyard was planted.
50 years on Forest Hill is family owned and run. The wines are crafted in their winery in Denmark with the grapes sourced from the old, dry grown, Forest Hill Vineyard in Mount Barker. The wines reflect the site, the season and the people that nurture them.
Bright straw with green hues and aromas of white nectarine, pears and spice. Flavours of stonefruit persist on the palate with citrus. Barrel fermentation builds richness, texture and complexing flavours. Finish is long with natural acidity.
“Gin Gin and Bernard clones 76, 95 and 96, chilled, whole-bunch pressed to French oak (20% new) for a cool, wild yeast fermentation (partial mlf) and 9 months maturation. This is a sumptuously rich chardonnay that keeps its belt tight thanks to all important natural acidity keeping off centre stage, allowing white peach and nectarine to joust with the grapefruit and melon flavours.” – 96 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday
