In 2020, the aromatics of the Grosset Alea Riesling appear to be much more in the dried herb spectrum, reminiscent more of white flowers than the intense lemon, lime characters that we’ve come to expect of the youthful wine. On the palate, the concentration from the low yields is evident. There’s a wonderful purity and intensity of lemon, lime flavours which are washed along by marvellous natural acidity. The finish is tight, powerful, long and satisfying.
Ageing Potential: First vintage 2012 so as yet unknown, however probably 15 years
Source: Grosset Rockwood Vineyard (ACO certified organic)
Fruit Flavours: Kaffir lime with hints of white flowers and herbs
Profile: Almost dry, underpinned by a linear acidity: fragrant, generous, succulent and long
Fining: Nil- suitable for vegans and vegetarians
“The fragrance here. Wow. It’s a floral parade, as exotic as it is welcoming. There’s plenty of fruit, sweet red apple and lime notes mostly, but then there’s a gravelling/gunsmoke aspect too. And there’s texture. And there’s intensity. Length, that too. This is damn good.” – 94 Points Campbell Mattinson, Winefront.
‘Spring blossom, key lime, pink lady apple, lantana, cilantro, leafy herbs, hint of freesia and lavender. There is eucalypt, dew, talcum and what… juniper? The palate is concentrated and intense, super fine, plush and if it had a colour it would be arctic white such is the purity and crystalline expression of this wine. The touch of sweetness in there does nothing but make this more balanced, charming and beautiful. There is tension, and taut acidity… all things balanced and teetering. Fresh and bright. Structured. It plunges deep and then it goes long. Brilliant wine.” – 98 Points Erin Larkin.
