“Fabulous wine.” – 95 Points & Top Value Gary Walsh

HEAD Wines was started in 2006 by Alex Head. It focuses on single site Rhone varietals from the Barossa and Eden Valleys in South Australia.

‘Old Vine’ Grenache planted circa 1960 on red clay over bluestone and ironstone at 290m elevation near Greenock on the western ridge of the Barossa Valley. Classified ‘Old Vine’ ( 35 years or older ) in accordance the ‘Barossa Old Vine Charter’. The Charter was established to preserve and celebrate Barossa’s old vineyard and unique viticultural heritage.

“Fabulous wine. It’s savoury and insistently tannic, not sweet, but full of juicy raspberry fruit. There’s a rose and spearmint perfume, peanuts and spice, medium bodied appeal, a sweep of shale-like tannin, subdued power, and a red fruited finish that cascades down the throat. A wine with a beating heart, and a throbbing pulse. Exemplary. It will age beautifully too.” – 95 Points & Top Value Gary Walsh
