Home Hill’s Flagship Wine
Home Hill Winery is nestled in the picturesque Huon Valley, The Huon Valley sits on the same degree of latitude as Bordeaux in France (albeit forty-three degrees south of the equator rather than north). These regions share a similar climate, with winters featuring fog, frost and snow, and an abundance of spring rain. This allows for the slow ripening of fruit during warm months and the perfect conditions for cool climate wine to be produced.
Made from a blend of the top barrels from the vintage, always with one small section of the vineyard at its core, the 2016 reserve displays concentrated fruit that combines with charry French oak to deliver a seductive and age-worthy Pinot Noir. A warm year resulted in a wine with brambly, savoury aromas that underpin its red and dark fruits, while smoked spices combine on the palate with sweet cherry fruit and fine dense tannins.
“The colour is little, if any, different to its Estate sibling, but the bouquet has more fragrant and varietally pure fruit. The palate unexpectedly reverses the plot, being more complex, more foresty and less fruity. There is presumably more whole bunch use, but the wine’s intensity draws saliva from the mouth.” – 97 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday
