95 Points & Top 100 Wine of 2020 James Halliday
2018 was considered to be a righteous year for Cabernet Sauvignon throughout Margaret River.
Predominately cabernet sauvignon (55%), merlot (38%), cabernet franc (6%) and petit verdot and malbec (1%) complete the blend. These lesser components bring a fleshy juiciness and complexity to the wine. All estate grown and made, spends 14 months in French oak, 15% new.
From a stunning vintage the wine is lifted and fragrant with violets, cherry, blackcurrant, blueberry, cassis and vanilla bean. The palate is full of juicy raspberry, cherry, red and black currants flavours with smooth long fine tannins and a very satisfying finish. This wine is all about the fruit so is approachable now but will enjoy a 5 to 10 year cellaring potential. Drink now to 2028.
“I like the firmness of this release. It’s a medium-weight wine but there’s a bit of grunt to the finish and that’s a good thing. Fire up the grill and sink into a bottle of this and you’re away. Currants, chocolate, violets and bay. It’s ripe, inviting and satisfying. It made a fan of me.” – 92 Points & Top Value Campbell Mattinson, Winefront
“Bright, clear crimson-purple; this punches way above its weight from the outset. Supple cassis and persistent – but silky – tannins sketch the outline of a wine with freshness and a balance that will sustain its shape for however long you elect to cellar it. Exceptional value.” – 95 Points & Top 100 Wine of 2020 James Halliday
