The McGuigan Bin Semillon is their most awarded wine. It is a perfect example of why the Hunter Valley is renowned as the premier region for Semillon in the world. This true Hunter style Semillon is a fresh light wine when young, then develops rich honey and toast characters with extended cellaring.
The 2015 growing season was another challenging year where winemaking experience was a must. Dry and cool conditions through much of the growing season resulted in very low yields. This was coupled with an extreme heat wave just as harvest was starting and then followed by regular rain events. Most fruit was picked before the heatwave, and due to the low yields the wines all have this rear character of extract along with finesse. A great year for Semillon
“Lanolin scents with a touch of vanilla, lots of floral and citrus characters too. Big perfume. Grassy characters to taste, tangy and zesty flavours, washy in texture, loose knit, but has some mouthwatering acidity and good concentration of flavour. Quintessential feel without being characterless. Nicely done and a steal at the bucks for a semillon hit, and even some cellar time.” – 90 Points Mike Bennie
