Mountadam Vineyards was established in 1972. The fruit utilised in this wine are from an area of Mountadam Vineyards eastern vineyard planted in 2001. The vines are planted at 450 meters above sea level.
The fruit was harvested in early April 2015. The parcels were fermented in 8T fermenter with heading down boards. The ferment was rack and returned twice daily. Maturation was carried out for twelve months in French oak barriques (10% new barrels, 50% 1-2 year old barrels, 40% older barrels). The wine can be enjoyed young but will reward careful cellaring for up to and possibly beyond 2024.
“Very good colour; another example of Helen McCarthy’s skills as a winemaker, sculpting a cabernet with razor-sharp varietal definition, and also managing to provide textural complexity going beyond the tannis that are part and parcel of the variety. It all adds up to a cabernet that is already enjoyable, but also has a long future.” – 95 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday
