The Naked Run Clare Valley Riesling was named ‘The First’ as it was the first wine produced under the Naked Run label. The 2017 vintage was their  thirteenth vintage of this wine. Made from 100% Clare Valley free run juice, the fruit was sourced from a single vineyard located at Sevenhill in the heart of the Clare Valley.

Their approach to making Riesling is careful management in the vineyard to create a healthy balanced canopy, then with minimal winemaking influence trying to capture their  unique microclimate. The vineyard is 475 metres above sea level, in a saddle at Sevenhill. This single block is planted to Riesling clone GM198 on red-grey loam over slate/shale subsoil. It has an easterly aspect with east-west row orientation and vertical shoot positioned trellis.

“Very light colour, with dusty mineral, dried herb and subtle lemon aromas, the palate crisp and lean, lively and dry, refreshing and light. A wine of real refinement albeit on the leaner side. But it has length. An excellent reserved style of riesling, which should age superbly” – 95 Points & 5 Stars Huon Hooke

“Juiciness, but some softness here too, with a pure feel and that freshly squeezed citrus really makes the mouth water. It has length, and a touch of perfume to close. Flat out delicious. Clare Valley Riesling fanciers should be all over this” – 95 Points Gary Walsh

“This really is a cut above, with gold medals from the Adelaide and Melbourne Wine Shows. Its lime, lemon and sherbet flavours have exceptional line, drive and length. Great now, and in 20 years hence.” – 97 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday
