Trophy & Gold – International Wine Challenge 2017
Section 181, like the Lot Three, is a single vineyard wine named after the official title of our Tatachilla block. When our founder Giovanni Patritti purchased McLaren Vale land in 1960, he carefully selected the sites of Blewitt Springs and Tatachilla. Blewitt Springs would be planted with Shiraz and Tatachilla, with Grenache. The fruit parcel of dry-grown grenache selected for our elite Section 181 wine is specifically chosen based on its strong expression of the unique Tatachilla terroir.
“From the 6ha of dry grown grenache already planted when it was purchased by the Patritti family in ’60 (Section 181, Branson Rd). Hand-picked, matured in French puncheons. McLaren Vale grenache at its imperious best, the fruit with exceptional texture and structure derived from its fine but persistent tannins, oak merely a means, not an end in itself. A 20-year grenache? Absolutely, and then some.” – 96 Points & Special Value James Halliday
