“lovely Grenache” – 94 Points Campbell Mattinson

When two good mates get together, one the Chief Winemaker with a major winery from the Barossa Valley and with his own vineyard, the other with a passion for wine, the inevitable had to happen and Purple Hands Wines was created. Craig Stansborough and Mark Slade started Purple Hands in 2006 with a humble start, making just 100 dozen in the first vintage. Just over a tonne of hand picked Shiraz was crushed and barrel fermented in Craig’s shed and then came the hard part, to find a name for the label.

“Old vines, wild yeast, whole bunches and then basket pressed to old oak. Lovely grenache. Excellent. It crackles with spice, it runs with fruit, it’s splashed with earth. Exactly as you’d like your grenache to be. Effortless, honest, pure and pretty. Ripped with tannin too. Everything as it should be. The Purple Hands winery is in the best of form.” – 94 Points Campbell Mattinson

“50+yo bush vines, 30% whole bunches in the fermentation and aged in used puncheons for 9 months has resulted in an ethereal, elegant wine. It’s heady with red fruit, licorice, potpourri and cinnamon with a palate so smooth the silky tannins glide across to a long finish.” – 95 Points & Special Value Wine Jane Faulkner for James Hallidays Wine Companion
