2017 Royal Sydney Wine Show
A riesling from South Australia has been awarded the majority of accolades at this year’s Sydney Royal Wine Show, becoming the first of its kind to receive the Best Wine of Show award since 2003.
The 2017 RieslingFreak No 3 Clare Valley Riesling from John Hughes Wines in South Australia took out five awards at the event in Sydney last night, including the KPMG Perpetual Trophy for best wine of show, Albert Chan Memorial Prize for best white and RAS of NSW Annual Prize for best young white.
It was also awarded the prestigious Tucker Seabrook Trophy, which is given to the best wine entered from the seven major capital-city wine shows held over the past year. – Source The Australian
Harvested from the family vineyard, situated in the sub region called White Hutt, the vineyard is in the northern part of the Clare Valley. Rieslings grown in this unique sub region, produce Riesling that has full and bold fruit flavours. With the warm spring and summer, the No.3 has retained the tradition of being a fruit driven Riesling. Pale straw in colour, floral and citrus notes on the nose, with a generous palate of lemon, limes, citrus marmalade and white peach. The wine has great acid and length. The wine drinks exceptionally well now, but will reward with long term cellaring.
