The 2017 Sandpiper Riesling was awarded “Elite Gold” at the Canberra International Riesling Challenge. Elite Gold is only awarded to wines that receive 96 points or above, out of the 100+ Australian entries, Sandpiper placed 4th overall. An amazing result for a wine that’s only $14.95
An above average wet spring and cooler than average summer temperatures led to a later start to picking than normal. This combined with a long and mild ripening period meant that our fruit developed to a beautiful level of maturity on the vine. This has led to outstanding flavours and elegant, expressive wines.
Pale straw with a subtle green gold hue. Lively citrus fruit, talc and bath salt aromas rise from the glass. Enticing freshly cut lime and floral notes flow across the palate, driven by a zesty and zingy acid line. A fine balance of minerality, fruit and acid creates a mouth puckering finish which leaves you salivating for another glass.
“Estate grown and skilfully made to preserve the flowery, citrus fruits of the bouquet and palate. It is from the velvet glove and steel hand school, offering great varietal fruit now, and long into the future. It has the tactile acidity found in a few young Rieslings. Grows on you each time it is retasted.” – 95 Points & Special Value Wine James Halliday
