Tyrrell’s Special Release is reserved for unique parcels of fruit that in a particular vintage have those qualities and point of difference to warrant being bottled and released on their own.
The vineyard blocks used from this are predominately from their Weinkeller vineyard, which in many years previously had gone into the Vat 9 blend. A tiny amount of Stevens Shiraz was used to top up the blend. Matured in mostly older large French Oak casks (2700L) along with some 4th use puncheons (500L).
“Light, fine and firm wine of inward concentration, finesse and supreme control. Tannins are superb, aromas judiciously flirty with red fruits, earthy, faint herbs and clove. Action in the palate is resstrained and fine, amazingly succulent, barely sweet then whips away long to savoury tannins. Superb, really.” – 94+ Points Mike Bennie
“Blackberry, boysenberry, liquorice, light spice and vanilla, gentle dusty earthiness. Medium bodied, red and black fruits, silky tannin, pitch perfect acidity, fresh berried finish of excellent length. The drinking pleasure is high with this one.” – 94 Points Gary Walsh
