Their best blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon are reserved for the ‘Book Ends’. Most is from the Karri Oak and Windy Hill vineyards in Mt Barker with just a touch of Frankland River Malbec (3%) added to the final blend. It was an excellent season, enjoyed by great conditions during the growing and ripening period and (unusually), also throughout the entire vintage! (it was certainly one of the most stress-free vintages the winemakers have ever experienced). The batches of fruit were all fermented separately with regular pump overs to maximise colour and flavour extraction. A portion was then left on skins post ferment before all being matured in French oak barriques, approx 30% new, for 18 months.
