The John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon is Wynns flagship wine, made only in small quantities from the best fruit grown on their Cabernet Sauvignon plantings in the heart of the terra rossa soil. First made in 1982, John Riddoch has emerged as the definitive Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.
The John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 was matured for 17 months in new and seasoned French oak, producing a vibrant deep red colour with a black core. The 2015 vintage has a powerful yet fresh nose, with hints of blueberries and red cherries, while the palate contains juicy red cherries and blueberry fruit.
“Succulent, just medium bodied red of impossible glide, finely wrought tannins, impressive length and a general sense of that inimitable ‘detail’ that great wines have. There’s salt bush and bramble-greenery scents woven through dark berries, cassis, subtle malt-chocolate oak notes and a whiff of pretty eucalyptus. The wine sits with stoic shape and authority in the palate, a tight sluice of dark fruit sheen with more of the salt bush, green herb and light cedar character. Seamless. Regal. Beautiful. Will live long. Kudos.” – 96+ Points Mike Bennie, Winefront.
“The bouquet has a subtle patina of smoky, toasty oak while the palate has an extra level of density and power over the other Wynns cabernets. Lashings of supple tannin. Great intensity, power and persistence. A glorious wine of fabulous flavour and power – indeed, a great cabernet!” – 98 Points Huon Hooke
